Is VNS Daith piercing placebo?

The reported improvements are too dramatic for this to be some subtle shift of perception in the patient.

Theories including acupuncture and placebo, have been put forward as to how and why it works. The most recent studies however, are pointing towards stimulation of the vagus nerve as being the cause of radical improvement in the pursuit for an effective treatment for migraine,. It is impossible for any kind of stimulation of the vagus nerve to be specific to one condition.

Effects are often instantaneous, resulting in an immediate sense of wellbeing.

What is claimed anecdotally/experientially is borne out statistically. Based on both clinical and funded research, VNS Daith Piercing has no reservations in recommending Daith Piercing as the “go to” way of vagus nerve stimulation as a medical treatment for migraine and a host of other conditions.

What does a consultation involve?

The consultation takes about an hour and involves finding out and recording information about your condition and your symptoms. Once we have gained a bigger picture from you as an individual case, we decide if you need one VNS Daith piercing or two. Tests and probing of the ears with specialist equipment are then done to find optimum placement. You will then be shown the selection of jewellery on offer at the clinic and asked to make your selection.

Your VNS Daith piercing will then be performed using a single use sterile needle, tools and jewellery.

After the VNS Daith piercing you will be asked a few further questions. You will then be given a bottle of VNS Daith aftercare and full instructions on how to care for your new piercing.

You will leave with the safe knowledge that your VNS Daith piercing has been performed in a registered, safe, clean clinic environment by a fully trained practitioner.

Does it hurt?

We would not lie to you. The answer is YES, it does hurt. The level of pain and discomfort varies from person to person as are all different! The reactions vary from “is that it?” to “that was awful” but you can rest assured that the procedure is extremely quick and the benefits far outweigh a moment’s discomfort. We use an extremely sharp sterile needle to make the piercing accurately and quickly in the exact pre located spot. The sterile jewellery is then inserted swiftly as the needle is removed. The whole piercing process takes less than 5 seconds including the insertion of the jewellery.
